Install the OnGrid App for Slack

Install the OnGrid app for Slack so that during verification, OnGrid can reach your candidates quickly on Slack and reduce TAT. By delivering messages where people already work, you get faster clarifications, document uploads, and confirmations with fewer follow‑ups. Teams see real‑time progress, avoid email delays, and cut repetitive calls. Admins keep control with clear permissions, default channels for visibility, and private DMs when needed. Setup takes minutes: start OAuth, choose your workspace, approve scopes, then run /ongrid help and /ongrid test. Streamlined, auditable communication inside Slack helps background checks, onboarding, and compliance move faster—with less friction and better outcomes.

What the app does

Reach candidates fast

During verification, message candidates directly in Slack to shorten turnaround time (TAT).

Simple commands

Use Slack slash commands to subscribe, manage preferences, or request a test message.

Granular control

Admins choose which channels to post to, and users can opt-in/opt-out of DMs where applicable.

Permissions requested

We ask only for the minimum required to deliver notifications and basic interactions. During installation, Slack will show these clearly:

  • chat:write – send messages as the app
  • app_mentions:read – respond when the app is mentioned
  • commands – enable slash commands
  • incoming-webhook – allow webhook-based notifications
  • channels:read, groups:read, im:read, mpim:read – show a channel picker for admin routing

Your workspace admin can review and approve these scopes during install.

Install guide

  1. Begin installation. Use your workspace’s app listing, a shared install link, or contact your admin to start the OAuth screen.
  2. Choose your workspace. Use the workspace switcher in the top right if needed.
  3. Review permissions and approve. Only a Workspace Admin/Owner can grant permissions if your workspace requires admin approval.
  4. Select a default channel (optional). This sets the primary destination for app notifications; you can change it later.
  5. Done. You’ll see a success screen and a “Welcome” message from the app in Slack.

For admins: Organization rollout

  1. Install the app once to your workspace (see steps above).
  2. Configure default channels and notification rules in the app’s Home tab or admin console.
  3. Share this page with users to self-install in their personal workspaces as needed.
  4. Optionally, restrict which channels the app can post to via Slack channel permissions.

Based on our internal E2E journey: collect prerequisites, generate the install URL, share with a workspace admin, complete OAuth, then verify by sending a test notification.
